Discover St. Barths!

An exclusive island in the French West Indies, St. Barths has a population of under 10,000 and an area of just 21 square kilometers, making it a destination with the cache for travelers looking for something off the beaten path. Gustavia, the island’s capital, is also its main harbor.

The only Caribbean island to have been a Swedish colony, St. Barth’s offers pristine beaches and azure waters for travelers looking for a respite from the cares of the world. As a nod to its heritage, St. Barth’s coat of arms still features the three crowns from the Swedish national arms. The island’s language, cuisine and culture are distinctly French - consider it a little corner of France in the Caribbean!

The island’s main town, Gustavia, was named for King Gustav III of Sweden, and reflects the island’s Swedish period. The oldest remaining settlement is the village of Lorient, although every cemetery on the island has Swedish grave markers. St. Barths’ population is spread among a number of settlements called quarters. The residents are known for their gracious hospitality, and St. Barths has long been an exclusive retreat for the jet set.
